Kids Dental Check-Ups in Sammamish, WA

It is very important for your child’s development to schedule regular visits to the dentist. The American Dental Association recommends visiting the dentist once your child’s teeth first start showing or before their first birthday. At these routine visits, Dr. Jumani assesses the health and development of your child’s teeth, gums, and bite. He will use non-intrusive techniques such as digital x-rays to accurately identify any potential issues.

Dr. Jumani carefully and gently completes his exam and shares open feedback with you, the parent. He’ll provide his recommendations, answer any questions, and identify an ideal treatment plan.

Our team wants children to develop a positive view of the dentist so we put forth extra effort to make each appointment unique. Dr. Jumani makes the visit all about your child (while educating you) and throws in some laughter and fun along the way.

THE EXAM

Our dental exam appointments typically last an hour. First, your family will be checked in by our cheerful and attentive front desk. If you haven’t had a chance to fill out the intake paperwork ahead of time, you will have the opportunity to do so in person. However, we strongly encourage families to fill out intake paperwork ahead of time, so that your appointment can begin seamlessly. This paperwork includes your child’s medical and dental history, HIPAA forms, your insurance information, and our office policies.

When it is time for your appointment, one of our dental assistants will introduce herself and bring your family back to the treatment bay. After getting consent from mom or dad, we’ll start a cleaning, consult with Dr. Jumani, and take any necessary radiographs. Dr. Jumani will then perform a detailed and thorough evaluation of your child’s oral health, and discuss any recommendations he may have. Parents will have ample opportunity to ask questions, so that you may leave empowered and well-informed. At the end of the appointment, your child will get a toothbrush and toothpaste to take home, a special gold coin for the toy tower, and the opportunity to pick out a balloon.

OUR APPROACH

As with every dental service, we aim to make dental exams a comfortable experience for our patients. Our team remains communicative with our patients throughout the process – letting them know what to expect and how much longer it’ll be. As a pediatric dental team, we understand the extra care that is required for our patients. We see numerous patients with different abilities; if your child has specific needs please let the front desk know at the time of making the appointment and we will do our best to accommodate these.

Dr. Jumani is a strong believer that parents are very important stakeholders in their child’s oral health during their formative years. He wants you to be an active participant during these exams, so we encourage you to join us in the treatment bay to watch, ask questions, and communicate with our team.

FAQs About Kids Dental Exams

When should a child get their first dental exam?

According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, a child should have their first dental exam by 12 months of age. A dental home should be established no later than 12 months of age to help children and families cultivate healthy habits and encourage a lifetime of good oral health.

How often should a child have a dental check up?

After the first checkup at age 1, a child should have a dental check up every 6 months. This helps the dentist closely monitor growth, development and address any issues that may arise sooner rather than later. Starting kids of young also helps them be less fearful of the dentist.

How do I prepare my child for the dentist?

Keeping a fun and a positive attitude/approach prior to a dental visit is the most important thing. We ask families to not over prepare kids with nitty gritty details about their dental visit. Reading a book (The Berenstain Bears visit the Dentist and Just Going To The Dentist are Dr. Jumani’s favorites) that cultivates their imagination.

What does a dental check up include?

A comprehensive dental exam typically includes a dental cleaning, age appropriate radiographs (if indicated), and a complete examination (Intraoral, Extraoral and Airway).
