Sometimes, despite a parent’s best efforts, a child may develop cavities on multiple teeth due to genetics, "Baby Bottle Tooth Decay," or enamel defects. In other cases, a fall or sports injury might damage several teeth at once.

When a child has 6, 8, or even 10 teeth that need treatment, fixing them one by one in separate appointments can be overwhelming. It often requires multiple shots, multiple stressful visits, and can lead to a child developing a lifelong fear of the dentist.

At Nurture Kids Dentistry, we offer Full Mouth Reconstruction (also called Full Mouth Rehabilitation). This allows us to treat all of your child’s dental needs in a single, safe appointment while they sleep.

What is Full Mouth Reconstruction?

Think of this as a "reset button" for your child’s oral health. Instead of dragging treatment out over months, we complete everything at once. This typically includes:

  • Comprehensive Cleaning: Removing all plaque and tartar.
  • Restorations: Placing white fillings or crowns (Zirconia or Stainless Steel) on damaged teeth.
  • Nerve Treatments: Performing pulpotomies on teeth with deep infection.
  • Extractions: Removing teeth that are too damaged to be saved.
  • Prevention: Applying sealants and fluoride to protect the remaining healthy surfaces.

The Safety of General Anesthesia

For comprehensive cases, we often recommend General Anesthesia. This is done in a hospital setting or with a Board-Certified Anesthesiologist right here in our office.

  • Two Specialists, One Goal: While Dr. Jumani focuses 100% on fixing the teeth, a dedicated anesthesiologist focuses 100% on monitoring your child’s heart rate, breathing, and safety.
  • Trauma-Free: Your child goes to sleep, wakes up, and the work is done. They have no memory of the sights, sounds, or sensations of the procedure.

Is General Anesthesia really safe for a dental procedure?
Yes. While no medical procedure is without risk, modern general anesthesia is extremely safe when administered by a qualified professional. We adhere to the strict safety guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD). We carefully screen your child’s medical history beforehand to ensure they are a good candidate.
How will my child feel when they wake up?
Most children are groggy and a bit irritable for the first hour after waking up—this is normal. They may have a sore throat (from the breathing tube) or sore gums. However, children are incredibly resilient! Most are back to playing and feeling like themselves by the next morning.
Why can’t we just do "conscious sedation" (laughing gas)?
Laughing gas is great for a cooperative child needing one or two fillings. However, it does not put a child to sleep; they are still awake and can feel pressure. For a young child requiring 2 hours of work on multiple teeth, it is almost impossible for them to sit still that long. General anesthesia ensures the work is done at the highest quality because the child is perfectly still.
Will my insurance cover the full reconstruction?
Dental insurance typically covers the procedures (fillings, crowns) up to your annual maximum. However, the anesthesia portion is sometimes considered a separate medical cost. Our treatment coordinator is an expert in navigating these benefits and will provide a clear, detailed breakdown of any out-of-pocket costs before we schedule surgery.
