Home / Orthodontics / Invisalign for Teens

High school is hard enough without worrying about "metal mouth" in yearbook photos, selfies, or at prom. For teenagers who want a straight smile but dread the look of traditional braces, Invisalign Teen® is the perfect solution.

At Nurture Kids Dentistry, Dr. Ketan Jumani offers this advanced clear aligner system designed specifically for the unique needs and lifestyles of teenagers. It’s the same powerful technology as adult Invisalign, but with a few clever "teen-proof" features built in.

Why Teens Love Invisalign

  • Invisible: The aligners are made of clear, medical-grade plastic. Most friends won't even know they are wearing them.
  • No Food Rules: Unlike braces (where popcorn, gum, and whole apples are banned), Invisalign is removable. Your teen can pop them out and eat whatever they want!
  • Selfie-Ready: No need to hide their smile in photos.
  • Comfort: No metal brackets or poking wires to irritate the cheeks or lips, making it great for teens who play wind instruments or sports.

Why Parents Love Invisalign

  • Better Hygiene: Because the trays are removable, your teen can brush and floss normally. There is no struggling to thread floss under wires, which often leads to "white spot" stains on teeth after braces come off.
  • The "Blue Dot" of Truth: Worried your teen won't wear them? Invisalign Teen aligners have small Blue Compliance Indicators on the back molars. These dots fade only if the aligners are worn for the required 20-22 hours a day. If the dot is still bright blue at the check-up, we know (and you know) they haven't been worn enough!

The Process: No Goop, All Tech

We use iTero digital scanner to create a 3D model of your teen’s teeth.

  • Scan: No messy, gag-inducing putty impressions! Just a quick, comfortable digital wand scan.
  • Plan: Dr. Jumani maps out the exact movement of every tooth. We can even show your teen a preview of their new smile before we start.
  • Align: Your teen receives a series of custom trays. They wear each set for about 1-2 weeks before switching to the next one at home.
  • Check: You visit us every 6-8 weeks so Dr. Jumani can ensure the teeth are tracking correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Expert Answers to Your Common Questions

Is Invisalign as effective as metal braces?
For the vast majority of cases (crowding, spacing, overbite), yes. However, for complex surgical cases or teeth that need to be rotated significantly, traditional metal braces may still be the faster, more precise tool. Dr. Jumani will be honest about which method will deliver the best result for your teen.
What happens if they lose a tray?
Don't panic. Call us immediately. Usually, we will have your teen wear the previous tray (to hold the teeth in place) or move up to the next tray if the fit is acceptable, while we order a replacement.
Do they have to wear them at school?
Yes. For Invisalign to work, the aligners must be worn 20 to 22 hours a day. They should only be taken out to eat, drink, brush, and floss. If they sit in a backpack during school hours, the teeth will not move.
Does it hurt?
Just like braces, moving teeth causes some pressure. Your teen may feel "tightness" or mild soreness for a day or two after switching to a new tray. This is actually a good sign that the treatment is working!
